Drawing sheet 035: Buyers ask in public before they ask you.

General notes

  2. 02Four channels come up again and again. Each says something different about where the next hour should go.

As posted

Ask a founder how their last customer actually arrived, not how the marketing plan says customers should, and there is almost always a pause before the answer.

The honest answer is rarely the funnel on the slide. It is a person, or a thread. Four channels come up again and again, and each says something different about where the next hour of work should go.

They searched and found the site. The site is legible to machines, and increasingly that means the AI assistants buyers ask before they ask anyone else. Keep it that way.

Someone recommended it. The product is doing the marketing. Make sharing effortless and stay out of its way.

A public thread, or a reply written in one. The conversation was already happening. The only variable was whether anyone from your side was there a day after it started or three weeks later.

Cold outreach. It works, at a cost that most founders undercount. Count it honestly.

One honest line about today. The tool I have spent the last five weeks building is live on Product Hunt. It exists because of the third channel: it finds the threads where people are already asking, drafts a reply in your voice, then stops and lets you post. The link is in the first comment. The sheet stands without it.
