Drawing sheet 022: Every morning at 8, a human did the platform's job.

General notes

  1. 01Hundreds of tables, several apps, a dozen payment integrations. And every morning someone assigned orders to riders by hand.
  2. 02It never felt urgent because it always got done. That is the trap. A manual step that always gets done never makes the roadmap.
  3. 03The platform was built. The habit was not. Automating your own daily work is the first feature, not the last.

it always got done. that’s the trap.

Dispatch by hand, every day, until it wasn't. The habit, not the platform.

As posted

Every morning at eight, a human did what the platform should have.

The marketplace had hundreds of database tables, several apps, a dozen payment integrations. Real orders, real riders. And every morning somebody sat down and assigned the morning's orders to riders. By hand.

Nobody planned it. It started as a stopgap and never felt urgent afterwards, because it always got done. That is the trap. A manual step that always gets done never makes it onto the roadmap. It does not fail loudly. It costs a person an hour every day, forever, and the platform quietly depends on that person turning up.

The platform was built. The habit was not.

The rule I took from it is short: automating your own daily work is the first feature, not the last. If you are the one doing something every morning, you are the bottleneck you have not built yet. Dispatch is automated now. The habit that let it stay manual is the thing I watch for in every system since.
